You're right....and I have a real hard time w/any shows from '85-86 as well... which sucks b/c I probably saw more shows in '85 than any other year. IMO, '85-'86 was the weakest stretch outside of the ugly final years of '93-'95.

Look, it's just that--objectively--if you listen w/a critical ear--Jerry's just fading off by '91--with SOME exceptions when Hornsby gave the boys a jolt of energy...but honestly--'91 is indicative of the beginning of the end. '85-'86 are awful b/c those are the days leading up to Jerry's coma, and clearly his health was affecting his singing/playing and the band in general was pretty much mailing it in....they started to get it together a bit in '87 w/Jerry's recovery--'88 was kind of a throw-away year and then '89-'90 they really made a remarkable two year comeback w/some fantastic runs that rivaled any era in terms of kick ass shows....but they couldn't keep up that pace, and you start to see the slip-back in '91.

I agree with you allmost 100% BUT you should give 91 a second chance. PLENTY of great moments in 91, the Oct 91 is proof of that. I agree that it was Hornsby lit a major fire under Garcia, I witnessed it too

I will keep trying. The Scarlet>Fire from 6-25-91 is pretty nice--you can hear Jerry really trying to belt it out.

I also saw some of the Hornsby run at Boston Garden in '91 and that was pretty special. I just look at most '91 recommendations with an air of skepticism--though I always like to hear suggestions b/c once in while you can get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right....hmmm....where have i heard that expression before? ;-)
